‘Tis the Season to Amplify: Support Centro Corona
As the holidays approach, you may be plotting what gifts to get your friends and family. But have you thought of giving a gift to your community?
This post is the second in a 5-part series highlighting grassroots organizations with mutual aid components to support this winter - and beyond. (You can read the first post of the series here.) I will focus on groups serving Western Queens, particularly Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, and Corona.
Love Wins Food Pantry is just one of many neighborhood mutual aid organizations in this area. Some of them have been helping Queens residents for years, offering resources, services, direct action, and more. This holiday season, consider supporting a group like Centro Corona.

This immigrant-run, Corona-based community center fosters activism and education through workshops, resources, and support. They believe in “community organizing as the way to fight for social justice for immigrants, women, youth and workers.”
During the pandemic, the Centro Corona Mutual Aid network stepped up to deliver prescriptions and groceries to vulnerable neighbors. They have also been distributing masks. If you’d like to volunteer your time as a delivery driver or donate masks, you can contact them on Instagram. You can also donate money to their mutual aid fund via Paypal.
With love always, Carly
